Summer is in full swing in Marquette County, where the rugged beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula meets a full calendar of festivals, outdoor adventures, and cultural celebrations. With Lake Superior as its backdrop, the region invites travelers to embrace long days, local flavor, and lively community spirit.
June kicks off with high energy, starting with the Great Lakes Rodeo in Gwinn, held Father’s Day weekend, June 13-14. This family-friendly tradition features barrel racing, bull riding, live entertainment, and much more. Also on June 14, Pride Fest brings color and joy to Mattson Lower Harbor Park, offering live music, performances, community resources, and a celebratory atmosphere.
Adventure seekers can take to the trails during Marquette Trails Fest, June 20-22. Whether you’re a fan of mountain biking, trail running, or simply soaking in the scenery, this action-packed weekend benefits the local Noquemanon Trail Network and includes plenty of social fun for participants and spectators alike.
From June 23 to 28, the city transforms into an open-air gallery during Art Week. Local artists take center stage with pop-up exhibits, interactive installations, live performances, and hands-on workshops, celebrating creativity across mediums and neighborhoods.
June also welcomes the Great Lakes H.O.G. Rally, happening June 26-28, as motorcyclists from across the country gather in Marquette to enjoy scenic rides, camaraderie, and local exploration. Whether taking part in the rally or simply observing, visitors can experience the region’s open roads and warm community spirit in a memorable way.
This year, the popular Lasers on the Ore Dock series has expanded to include monthly light shows. Happening June 5-7 and 19-21 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (20 minutes after sunset), each event features rotating themes, guest artists, and vivid projections on the iconic Lower Harbor Ore Dock, courtesy of Fresh Coast Light Lab and Travel Marquette.
Beyond these special events, summer in Marquette County means access to over 300 sparkling inland lakes, nearly 350 miles of trails, and 83 miles of Lake Superior shoreline. Waterfalls, forest paths, and panoramic lookouts offer the perfect way to balance the bustle of festival season with peaceful moments in nature.
