No, U.S. driver's licenses are considered valid by Canada and Mexico for visitors on short-term tourist trips. You'll still need a passport to enter either country, whether or not you plan on driving.
These countries require an IDP along with your U.S. driver's license to drive or rent a car.

If you intend to drive in the following countries, be sure to check INTER-AMERICAN DRIVING PERMIT box page 1. In Brazil, you will need an Inter-American Driving Permit if you intend to stay for over 180 days.

IDPs are valid for 1 year from the effective date or the expiration of your driver’s license, whichever comes first. International Driving Permits are not renewable.
You must be at least 18 years old to apply for an International Driving Permit.
IDPs are serialized documents and cannot be duplicated or renewed. If lost, stolen, or expired, you must apply for and purchase a new IDP.
